Durango is the La Plata County seat, about forty-five miles east of us over Mancos Hill. That is a real drive and we will not pretend otherwise — but we do groom Durango dogs, mostly for work that is hard to get closer.
We answer the phone, or call you back the same day.
Let us be honest about the distance first, because it matters more than any marketing would. Durango is around forty-five miles from our table, over Mancos Hill, and in winter that road is a genuine consideration. Durango has its own groomers. For a routine bath and nail trim, use them — we are not going to tell you a ninety-mile round trip is sensible for a $40 bath.
Where the drive does make sense is specialised work. Hand-stripping a wire coat properly is slow hand labour and not every shop offers it. Neither is an honest conversation about a badly matted coat, or a patient session with a senior or anxious dog that needs two hours and several breaks rather than a slot. Those are the Durango bookings we get, and they are the ones we think are worth your fuel.
If you are making the trip, book well ahead and tell us when you need to be back on the road. We will hold a slot that lets you drop off, do something useful in Cortez, and collect the same day rather than waiting around. What we will not do is book you for a groom we know you could get for the same money twenty minutes from your house.
Scheduling in Durango
Durango is about forty-five miles east over Mancos Hill. For routine work a local groomer makes more sense and we will tell you so. For hand-stripping or a dog that needs unusual patience, book ahead and we will make the day work.
All three of our service lines are available to Durango properties, handled by the same small team, in our Cortez shop.
Same prices for every town we serve — coat type down the side, dog weight across the top.

These are ranges, not quotes. Where a dog lands inside its range depends on what actually takes time: how much dead undercoat is in there, how long it has been since the last groom, whether we are working around anxiety or sore joints, and where the dog sits within its weight tier. We confirm the price when we see the dog, before any clipper is switched on. Ranges reflect typical 2026 Montezuma County jobs.
Our matting policy, in plain terms
We will not brush out a severely matted coat. Past roughly fifteen minutes of de-matting, pulling a pelt apart hurts more than a short haircut does, and it can leave the skin bruised and raw underneath. When we find a coat in that state we stop, call you, and recommend clipping it short so it can grow back properly. It is not the result anyone wanted, and it is the right call for the dog every time.
